Songs
of the Jimmy Martin
Truly one of the all-time great bluegrass singers, the
self-proclaimed "King of Bluegrass" was Bill Monroes' lead singer
in the Bluegrass Boys in the early 50's. He also played with the Osborne
brothers for many years, and of course with his own band, the Sunny Mountain
Boys, with J.D. Crowe. His voice can be heard on such Bill Monroe classics
as "Uncle Pen", "0n and On", and "Letter From
My Darlin", and he is best known for his classics, including "Hit
Parade of Love", "Sunny SIde of the Mountain" and "Sophronie".
A bluegrass "character" in every sense, Jimmy unfortunately
didn't gain the widespread public recognition of Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs,
or the Stanleys, but he has a special place in the hearts of all true
traditonal bluegrass enthusiasts.
