Songs
of the Carter Family
The Carter family (originally A.P., Sara, and their
cousin Maybelle) contributed perhaps more than any other "pre-bluegrass"
group to the current bluegrass repetoire. Easily recognizable, thier music
was heard on Border Radio in the 30's and on their many recordings on
Victor, RCA and Decca. The Carter family drew on souther gospel, blues
and country influences, and "adopted" many traditional songs
into their repetoire and copyright. The descendants of the original "Carter
Family" still perform traditional and modern country music.
